Halloween II Interview – Tawny Moyer

HALLOWEEN II 25th ANNIVERSARY

Q: How did you get the role of Nurse Jill in HALLOWEEN II?

TM: I auditioned cold for the director, Rick Rosenthal, in a little office in Burbank, California.

Q: Your death scene is one of the best in the series! Can you explain in detail how the effect was accomplished?

TM: Well, these are secrets! I was wearing the “flying harness” from Mary Poppins so they could lift me up. They placed a thick plank of balsa wood under my sweater, so when he stabbed me, it went into the wood!

Q: How long did it take to shoot that scene? And were you hurt in any way from performing it?

TM: The scene took all afternoon to shoot and I was pretty bruised up from the wires that lifted me. But, I was happy because I got stunt pay! That was good, because we all were getting scale only!

Q: What was it like working with Jamie Lee Curtis? Can you tell us what she was like on and off set?

TM: Jamie was a great girl then and now!

Q: What was it like working with the other actors on the staff, such as Gloria Gifford, Pamela Susan Shoop, Leo Rossi and Lance Guest?

TM: We were a big family for the shoot and then we basically never saw each other again until the 25th anniversary convention. Now we are all in touch!

Q: How do you feel about horror movies in general? Are you a fan of them, why or why not?

TM: As a kid, I loved sci-fi and horror. My Dad and I always watched these movies. But, as life has gotten more frightening I find horror movies more frightening too! I still watch the movies, but I hide my eyes!

Q: Were there any scenes you did in HALLOWEEN II that didn’t make it into the final cut of the movie? If so, what were they?

TM: Yes, I have a whole monologue on the phone, while I do my nails. I was in the movie dubbed in Spanish and that scene was still there! Very funny!

Q: What is it like filming a horror movie?

TM: The death scenes are scary, but what is the atmosphere like on the set of this kind of film? It’s the same as any film. I guess it is kind of weird to act like nothing is unusual when the other actor is bleeding to death or has a razor stuck in their upper lip!

Q: What was it like working with Debra Hill?

TM: God Bless Debra! She is the one who figured out who the nurses could be. She told me that I was to be in the movie Marilyn Monroe. Loved her. She was a trail blazer for women in film.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about working with director Rick Rosenthal. What was he like?

TM: We got along very well, we did a few things later too, like a video for the group Wasp. It was so horror-like that MTV refused to run it, due to the violent nature of it!

Q: What are your comments about the fans of the series? What have they been like over the years?

TM: The fans are very sweet, they always amaze me with their interest!

Q: Are you still acting? If so, what are you working on now?

TM: I am currently ready and willing to act! My husband has been working a lot (Patrick St. Esprit), he is in United 93 as “Major Kevin Nasypany,” the Norads guy. Now, there’s a horror film! For real! I think this movie should be seen by every American! It’s really great! It’s really important.

Q: What have you been up to over the last 25 years? What are your hobbies and interests outside of acting?

TM: I love to paint! My website has a boutique, where you can buy my art in lots of products like mugs and posters, t-shirts, journals and cards. I also have a HALLOWEEN II group of products that are really fun, like boxer shorts and hats with my death scene on them!

Q: Will you be doing any other convention appearances, and how can fans contact you for autographs?

TM: Fans can e-mail me from my website and any appearances I have will be listed there. Plus, they can purchase photos from the movie. If you send me the photo, I will sign it and send it back! See the website for details at TawnyMoyer.com.
