Danny McBride & David Gordon Green Tease Halloween Kills’ “Viral Fear” in Empire Magazine

July 10, 2020 by Sean Decker

Jaime Lee Curtis as “Laurie Strode” in Halloween Kills

“It takes place the same night, picking up where the last movie ended,” Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills co-writer Danny McBride explains in the latest issue of Empire magazine, in regards to what audiences can expect of Halloween Kills, coming from Universal Pictures on October 15, 2021.

“Events in the film bring together a lot of characters who were in the 1978 (Halloween) film who we didn’t see last time,” he continued. “They gather to try, once and for all, to take down Michael, to stop this madman.”

Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills director and co-writer David Gordon Greens adds, “The (2018 movie) was more about Laurie’s life of isolation after Michael and her attempts at revenge. It was personal. This is more about the unravelling of a community into chaos. It’s about how fear spreads virally.”

Danny McBride & David Gordon Green at the premiere of Halloween (2018)

As for series star Jamie Lee Curtis, who returns in Halloween Kills to reprise her role of “Laurie Strode” (which she originated in John Carpenter’s immortal classic, Halloween), Green says of her turn in the upcoming film, “The fact  that she could do her own stunts, kick everybody’s ass and be a joy to work with (in the 2018 film) definitely meant re-evaluating what we wanted to do with the next chapter of the story. We were excited to write without limitations about what Laurie can do.”

For the full article, pick up the Big-Screen Preview issue of Empire magazine on sale now, and check out the teaser released earlier this week for Halloween Kills below.

In Halloween Kills, Curtis is joined by original cast members Nick Castle, Kyle Richards, Nancy Stephens and Charles Cyphers. Additional cast includes James Jude Courtney, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Robert Longstreet and Anthony Michael Hall.

Produced by Trancas International Films, Miramax and Blumhouse Productions and based on characters created by series originators John Carpenter and Debra Hill, Halloween Kills and its follow-up Halloween Ends (the latter now set for release on October 14, 2022) will be produced by Malek Akkad, Jason Blum and Bill Block. Green, McBride, John Carpenter, Curtis, Jeanette Volturno, Couper Samuelson and Ryan Freimann serve as executive producers.

For the Shelf: Michael’s Stabby Snow Globe

March 19, 2020 by Sean Decker

In 1998 The Shape stalked not only the big screen in Steve Miner’s box office success Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, but also the shelves of now defunct retailers Sam Goody, Blockbuster Video and Wherehouse Music stores (among others) in the form of a now highly sought after collectible: Anchor Bay’s 20th Anniversary Snow Globe Set VHS re-release of Halloween.

In addition to the 1978 classic film, presented in widescreen format and with the theatrical trailer included (in a clam shell VHS tape case, which seems utterly nostalgic today), was a limited-edition commemorative snow globe depicting Myers’ third act living room attack on Laurie Strode. At the time the only Halloween collectible which depicted the film’s final girl, the globe’s gimmick was simple: shake it up and it “snowed” with glitter blood. Individually numbered and licensed by Compass International Pictures, Inc., the set originally retailed for $29.99, although it now fetches prices many times that in collector circles.

Do you have one? We’d love to see how you display it!

Jamie Lee Curtis Wins Best Actress for Halloween (2018) at the Saturn Awards

September 16, 2019 by Sean Decker

With the 45th annual Saturn Awards having taken place this past Friday night at the Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles, CA, the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films honored many for their excellence within the genre, one of which was actress Jamie Lee Curtis, who won the award for ‘Best Actress in a Film’ for her portrayal of Laurie Strode in last year’s smash hit, the David Gordon Green-directed feature film Halloween.

“It’s Friday the 13th, it’s a full moon, and I’m the luckiest girl in the world,” Curtis said during her acceptance speech in which she accepted the award from presenter Jon Cryer, and sang the praises of many, including Green and filmmaker John Carpenter, who originated the horror series in which she’s become a staple via 1978’s Halloween.

“There are millions of people responsible for this (award),” she continued, “and those are the fans of this beautiful genre that has given me my creative life.”

You can watch her speech from the Saturns below.

Curtis returns to the Halloween universe next year in Halloween Kills (a direct sequel to last year’s Halloween), which is slated for release on October 16th of 2020. Produced by Trancas International Films, Miramax and Blumhouse Productions, filmmaker Green returns for Kills to direct from a script he co-wrote with returning collaborator Danny McBride and series newcomer Scott Teems.

Based on characters created by series originator Carpenter and Debra Hills, Halloween Kills and its impending 2021 follow-up Halloween Ends will be produced by Malek Akkad, Jason Blum and Bill Block. Green, McBride, John Carpenter, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jeanette Volturno, Couper Samuelson and Ryan Freimann will serve as executive producers, with Ryan Turek overseeing both projects for Blumhouse.

Our congratulations to Jamie Lee!
